SRE Associates was formed in 2017 by Simon Blacker, a chartered town planner and full member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI).

Simon originally studied Planning and Development Surveying at Northumbria University between 2000 and 2004, and gained a post graduate masters degree in Environmental Planning at Liverpool JMU.

Since graduating Simon has worked in a number of planning roles in both the public and private sectors throughout Cumbria, where he is from and is currently based.

Following university, he worked for Copeland Borough Council for a significant time as a Planning Officer, and then moved into private practice with Taylor & Hardy Planning Consultants based in Carlisle. Most latterly prior to SRE Associates, Simon was an Associate Director of WYG (now Tetra Tech) based in Cumbria. Having been based and working in Cumbria for a number of years, he has an extension knowledge of both rural and urban planning issues as the county provides.
